iChat AV Testing - Looking For Some PowerPC Jabber Buddies

Hi PowerPC community!

I really miss audio and video chatting via iChat AV from PowerPC systems. It used to work so well! Right now I'm testing Jabber services (and may self host later) that will still allow iChat AV to message as well as audio/video chat. With my own testing, it looks like https://www.jabbim.com/ supports this and is very easy to sign up for.

Please note that this only seems to work for iChat AV on Leopard as olders versions of iChat AV seem to not be able to authenticate. If anyone would like to test with me, feel free to sign up and add me. I'm pipetogrep@jabb.im.

Video chatting on iChat over the internet on PPC. I can’t believe it still works ! For everyone else , we had to port forward a few ports with a bit of tweaking on the source and receiver end on the router .

I’m heartened to learn that y’all found a jabber client in 2022 which does support older clients as iChat. I may look at setting up a jabb.im account to test its function on iChat for SL-PPC.

This thread, from its own angle (here, testing an established server), seems to be approaching many of the same questions and finding workarounds as these three threads of late.
