I've looked for a solution to this issue for literally years to no avail. I thought that it couldn't hurt to post here and see what happens.
I have ichat 4. When I open it I see my screen name and available, but my entire buddy list is greyed out. I've already tried the method of deleting one of the .plist files. I've seen something about toggling the security preferences, but all of my security options are greyed out, and a message on the bottom says "you cannot change privacy settings while logged out". I've also tried changing the server port from 5190 to 433, which also obviously did not work. I've also deleted and reinstalled ichat several times.
If anybody had any ideas at all, I'd really appreciate it.
