iChat file transfer problem

When I try to recieve files from other users using ichat the program gives me an error message saying that the file cannot be downloaded twice, when i have never before receieved the file. I tried changing directories but with no luck. Any help would be greaatly appreciated. Also are there any other good chat programs to use. I have a intel dual core iMac.
