Ichat: help with menu bar status

I used to be able to change my status to away and such in the ichat menu bar. For some reason or another, the drop down menu that used to appear from the menu bar no longer works...or it has disappeared...and I don't know how to get it back.

Help?

The option to put it up there should be in the preferences. I'm not at my mac now so I hope that helps.

No, it's there in the menu bar....but it doesn't show the drop down menu anymore to let me change my status.

I re-checked my preferences in ichat, and it should let me ... but it's not.
