iChat issues...HELP Please!

I have a 21.5 iMac (late 2009) and out of the blue, I began experiencing the following problems with iChat:

-Will lose connection randomly
-Messages will not go through
-If I am in a video chat session, iChat can randomly disconnects but the video session will remain in progress

I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have internet or file sharing turned on, try turning off those. At least that is what worked in my case.
