iChat issues

I seem to be having some serious problems with ichat. One day last week it just refused to connect, and it has ever since. the problem seems to only happen in my house though, because my siblings are having no problems at their respective locations. However, when they come for visits, their ichat on their computers also does not work. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I've since downloaded Adium to use in the meantime, but i'd really prefer to use iChat. (Adium works fine, if that gives any hints to why iChat isn't working)

have you got a firewall or the right ports selected? this could be the issue
