ichat...open, but not showing...help

i open the app, get a couple of bounces....then it has the light below the docked icon.

there is no window showing.

i have the ichat menu bar at the top of finder.....'ichat preferences' can't be clicked on.
i have the light under the docked icon....it won't open.
shows up in activity monitor as active. (but i can't use it or see it)
command+1....nothing
command+2....nothing

it's just weird...no idea what's wrong with it. i'm not a terminal junky so i'm not saavy on that

quit iChat, try moving com.apple.iChat.plist (it's in ~/Library/Preferences/) to the desktop and then restarting iChat

i'll try it. teaching the youth of america right now...but when i get home, i'll see if it works.

if it does work, what do i then do with the file that's on my desktop??
trash it, once it's open and working??

i don't have that.....i see all of the other com.apple.____.plist......but nothing for ichat.

what do i do now??
