iChat screen sharing problem

Whenever I start to screen share with a friend of mine, we both get this horrible feedback. Its a loud screeching noise that comes and goes. It stops for a couple minutes, then come back even worse. To the point where we have to stop screen sharing because the sound is unbearable.

When we video chat we don't get this noise at all, only when screen sharing.

Anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Screen Share ScrEEEEth

I have the same problem with my old Pismo laptop. Both Screen Sharing and iPod/Phone Remote app cause the same effect. (no problem with our newer macs). Did you ever figure this one out?
I have 400mhz with Tiger and iTunes 8.1.3, and plug a D/A converter into the USB port for sound output. This mix may conflict with itself somehow. Or....?
