iChat sound

I just used Ichat for the first time on my MBP and while video chatting with a friend his voice only came out of the right speaker and it was very hard for me to hear. I had to put headphones on just to hear him. Both speakers work fine with music and dvd's so im wondering is this is normal or not? thanks!
