...my friend and I have had problems chatting over iChat the past two days...we can get the video connection alright, but no audio from his side to me.

He is on dsl and I am on a cable modem. We both have netgear routers.
His audio works neither in a video chat nor in an audio chat.
His sound prefs are set to use the internal mic, the level moves when he speaks.
We have also determined through Garageband that the mic is working on his side.
My speakers are on and not muted.

Any suggestions on how to proceed trouble shooting?

(just for the record, I am on MDD G4 and he is on Intel CD iMac, both with 10.4.8)

Thanks in advance.

My friend and I have the exact same problem. He has a satellite internet connection that can be troublesome at times. Try going to the Video tab in iChat then going to Video Preview. Click on prefrences and then play around with the bandwith limits. We did that and it has been working good since then.

Thanks a lot...turns out in the same panel, his microphone was set wrong. Never would have see that without your suggestion.

Thanks again!
