iChat unexpected error

Hi everyone, I have searched around this forum and on Apple discussion and I have yet to find a solution to my iChat problem. Whenever I try to send a file or receive it from anyone, iChat gives me a message saying 'Unexpected error (possibly [insert person I am talking to screen name] did not respond in time).' When I searched around for solutions, all I could find was to change the port number to 443 which mine is already. I would greatly appreciate help to fix this problem because I like iChat and do not want to use another instant messaging program. Thanks.
