If two people have iChat on their laptops and happen to be in the same house on the same router, do you need to set up some sort of account to use iChat to see and talk to each other or can they do it with whatever is already on their macs?
If they do need some sort of third party account, what's the easiest method to use?

Yes, use Bonjour. It's built in. Just need to sign in, and it'll use the default name of your Mac account on the system.
