I just bought a new mac book pro and so did my boyfriend. Right now we live about 3 blocks away from each other but next month were moving far away. We can video chat with everyone but each other. The first day my boyfriend got his mac we video chatted and now we can't. We both get the same error message that there was a communication error. HELPPPP

All I can think of is reinstalling the OS (I don't think you can get iChat as a standalone install). Don't worry (if you were) you can reinstall the OS without losing your data.

Or try getting a new mail account to use with iChat.

Your computers are fine, it's a problem with your routers.

Theres certain ports that must be open on your routers in order for the connection to be successful.

This happened with my fiance and I, we had the same problem, so I opened a list of ports (found on Apple's website) in order for iChat to work.

You can do the same or just download Skype and do video chat that way, might be a bit easier.

EDIT: I believe this is the article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507
