iChat work with Facetime?

I tried to do a search on whether iChat would work with those who have FT.
I got mixed results. For every yes I found, there was a no it wouldn't work.
Now these threads are a couple of years old.
Is there anything new that would work with FT using your MBP?

I know there is the FT app over at the app store but it really got bad reviews.
I also keep reading about skype and FT.
Not to familiar with skype though.
Is it easy to work with? Will it even work?

Facetime only works through the Facetime app. It is not compatible with Skype in any way.
