iPad iClarified says 1st Gen iPad 5.1.1 Jailbreak is tethered?

I have a 1st gen iPad (the original big heavy one). I went to iClarified and they said

Important!At this time you can only perform a tethered jailbreak of the iPad on iOS 5.1.1

Is this true? I thought that the 5.1.1 1st gen iPad is an untethered jailbreak?

I'd like to update it to the newest firmware and jailbreak it, but prefer untethered.

Please advise.

Old information, that page is from may 2012 when there only was the limerain tethered way.

Use redsn0w or absinthe2 to jailbreak untethered.

Untethered. Running jut fine on my iPad 1.
