Hello all.
New to the forum. New to MAC.
PC user for 30+yrs. But an old dog can learn new tricks. Know enough UNIX to be dangerous, so I should be good to go! ;-)

Sorry for the longwinded post but here goes.
I have done a number of searches on this and other forums prior to this post. If I missed the perfect solution, sorry in advance.

I am trying to sync my iphone contacts with my macbook pro (Yosemite 10.10.5) via icloud.
Specifically I want to sync only reminders, contacts, calendars.
Iphone syncs to icloud no problem. I can see all reminders, calendar appts, and contacts on icloud.com acct.
The problem appears to be between MAC and icloud.
Reminders and calendar sync'd no problem. All good for these.
However, I can't seem to get the MAC to sync the contacts from icloud.
When I go to "system preferences>icloud", I am able to log in to my icloud acct no prob. I have the three checkboxes next to contacts, calendars, and reminders checked. (as I already said, calendars and reminders sync'd. I can also manage my icloud account details, so I am connected to my icloud acct.)
I have tried deleting the account, restarting the mac, checking and unchecking the calendars checkbox in various permutations in order to get the contacts syncing/resyncing. No dice.

If I go to Contacts>Accounts I can see my icloud account set up through system preferences,

however under the main window of the contacts, I do not see an icloud heading.

Additionally,
If I navigate to Contacts>Preferences>Accounts the icloud account is not listed here.

(BTW, not sure why Contacts has two separate ways to get to accounts?)
If I try to add the account here with the + at the bottom, I get this dialog

It appears to connect without error, but still nothing shows in the second accounts list.
Any ideas???
I have fuddled around with it to no avail.
I have tried the mac help pages on setting the stuff up and no good.
Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks,
LV

See if this article helps: LINK

I looked at the link, unfortunately sorry, no help.
The reason I stated....
"I have done a number of searches on this and other forums prior to this post."
"I have tried the mac help pages on setting the stuff up and no good."
in my original post is to avoid folks posting the generic, "try this link".
Which hen takes me to the generic setups for icloud.
I have seen and tried the generic info and variations.
These pages all have the generic repeated info, which doesn't handle special cases.
Believe me, my wife says I am a special case.

I believe I know how to set it up based on the generic instructions.
My issue appears to be something not everyone is experiencing in regular setup, hence the post.

A bit more....
I tried adding a contact under all contacts.
I quit contacts, then when I restarted, the contact I added was gone.

I have Outlook on my machine. Could the contacts in Outlook be screwing with the general contacts?

I don't know about any Outlook (2011) possibilities but make sure you don't have anything checked in Outlook>Preferences>Sync Services.

The fix will probably be logging out of iCloud on your Mac everywhere (iCloud, Internet Accounts and also Messages and FaceTime), then logging back in.

Brian, thanks for the info.
Outlook sync services were and remain all unchecked.
I also just tried your suggestion. Logged out of icloud in the places you pointed out. Restarted my system, and then logged back in. No dice.

To expand on my #4 post above,
Not only when I add a new contact, but if I try to add a new group and create a new contact in it, both the new group and the contact get deleted if I quit then reopen the Contacts prgm.
Actually, I don't even have to quit.
If I create a new contact, then click on Contacts>Accounts... As the dialog for the Accounts pops open, I see the added contact disappear from the main contacts window.

Totally weird.
