icloud backup and restore (3rd party apps)

I'm trying to understand this feature since I've never used it. I've always setup a device as a new device.

let's say I have install a twitter client and have backed this up into iCloud. I then reset my phone (reset contents/settings) and instead of setting up a new device, I then selected my latest backup.

So once I install the twitter client app, all my previous settings/data are already there? Is that how it works? thanks! :)
