iCloud backup help - Trying to backup old iPhone X

Trying to backup old iPhone X to iCloud. Received a message saying I’d get unlimited storage while I set the new phone up.

Tried to back up and it says ‘The last backup could not be completed

When I go to the ‘transfer to iPhone’ in the general settings I click get started but nothing actually happens?

Any advice?

I’ve tried toggling the ‘backup to iPhone’ button through the iCloud screen but it also keeps turning itself off

that's not uncommon. make sure the phone is plugged into a charger and on stable wifi - and try again
