-call history logs
-game saves
-video/file content and/or settings in other apps (e.g. movies in VLC)

It seems SMS and videos will be backed up. It also mentions app data, but any 3rd party apps will have to use the APIs.

excellent! I'd much prefer this than backup through my pc. I've always had issues where I had to restore my iphone and it would fail for some reason or other. I'd then have to jailbreak to reinsert mms,camera roll,game saves...etc

Yes, all of it, and no app devs don't have to do anything special.

All the old iOS4 apps, way back in early betas when icloud was first activated, all their content, game-state, etc stored to iCloud backup.

App devs can take additional special use of some cloud features above and beyond Apple daily backup.
