iCloud causing Safari to slow down

Over the last few days Safari has been going astonishingly slow. To do a Google search or some other basic task it was taking 30 seconds - 1 minute. It was barely useable.

I read to sign out of iCloud and back in again. I signed out, tried Safari and it was back to normal, pretty much instant.

As soon as I sign back into iCloud it slows right down again.

Any ideas why? I need to use iCloud and Safari together, I can't choose a particular one.

Do you need Safari sync'ed with iCloud? If not, you could just disable Safari syncing in the iCloud preferences.
