Hi,

I have been setting up a new iMac and noticed something that I am not sure if it was there before.

I tend to leave Optimise storage on with MBA though plan to switch off on new iMac so I can have a local backup of all files to NAS. New iMac did not seem to want to sync iCloud Drive so I followed usual Apple route - switch off iCloud Drive for documents and desktop and switch on again. Went for coffee and a walk and came back and all seemed to sync with some plan unknown to me which it would download (despite optimise suggesting it would keep copies if space permitted which it does as I have 15GB in Documents and 512GB on iMac).

Continued process to setup. I have a few things I bring over via iCloud Drive - id keys in .ssh, setup scripts to pull dot files from git etc. From terminal went to copy these from iCloud Drive and it brought over some .iCloud files. Had to use finder to cause these to sync before back to terminal.

As part of process I turned on show hidden files. I then noticed a hidden alias to Documents, Desktop and Trash. I don't remember seeing these before but I suppose I was not looking. These alias to /Users/user/Documents. If I try to delete the alias it gets recreated. The contents of each link back to documents on Mac disk which is same as in iCloud Drive.

I am a little confused. Is this normal or has something gone a bit strange?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
