So ios8 supports iCloud drive and I have the GM, however my macbook is on mavericks. When I try and save a pages file to iCloud is says that iCloud drive is not supported. Will this be fixed when ios8 becomes available to the public. Or is there a way on ios8 to switch back to the old iCloud syncing method. I also just upgraded to 200gb of storage so it would be nice to actually be able to use it!

Well. As you can read, Mavericks does not support iCloud Drive, so whatever work you do in iWork, save it locally and not to the cloud. If you want to see the status of your documents, open these in iCloud.com.
So your choices are to either use iCloud.com, wait for Yosemite or install the current beta or GM release available.
