iCloud Keychain password creator - useless?

Well at least I tried to create one for this forum. While it suggested one, once I logged out and went to login it still kept my old password! Now of course I did not write down the password, so i had to reset my one here?

Am I missing something as this seems incredibly dumb?

I had this same problem... and then when I tried to reset my password on the same site, there is a site issue, so I've accidentally been locked out of a website. :-/
