iCloud icloud mail no longer working on android apps

I had my Mac email .me account set up in a mail app on my Android phone and it worked fine for years. It stopped working a few days ago. Mac email still works fine on Macbook and ipad. Ended up uninstalling email app from phone and trying three different ones. None of them allow me to log in to my Apple account - various error messages. Apple tech support say it's not their problem. Any ideas?
