My wife's iCloud account starting deleting thousands of emails and she cannot find them anywhere. Uses iOS Mail app, only on iPad and iPhone, with only one email account (iCloud). No other devices or internet access. The other day she opened her email app and watched as literally over 8 thousand emails starting disappearing from her inbox (read and unread). Current folders show:
Inbox: 84 unread, no read
Junk: 55 unread, no read
Trash: 310 unread, no read.
Archive: 0 unread, 3 read

Her "sent" folder stills shows many sent emails dating back many months.

Any idea how to recover her emails? Is this some malware issue? Greatly appreciate any help!

One has to be careful of the Mail app on iOS I've discovered. It's default setting for the Trash folder is to delete all mail over a week old. If one tends to use the Trash as a temporary archive holder (yeah, not the best idea ;)) one can be in for a shock when stuff unexpectedly just goes into the ether.
