General iCloud message backup

I'm a bit confused. Does iCloud officially backup messages now? I activated my new iPhone X. I had a bunch of messages on my iPhone 7 which seemed to transfer over fine.

One of my messages however had hundreds of photos in it due to a long long iMessage with a sibling. That totally disappeared.

Is that a bug? Is there a size limit on messages?

That’s not in yet. You’d have to restore from your iPhone 7 iCloud backup to have those populate.

This is partially why I always just save pictures and then delete them out of the messages.
