iPhone Storage:

Messages claims to take up 300 MB for "photos" but when you tap on "photos" it is actually empty

Conversion Thread within Messaging App

conversation details shows Photos which are not actually there (e. g. my dog in that example) yet the photos, which you can see behind the pop up are neither in the "iPhone Storage" nor in the Messaging details to be found:

Messages in the Cloud

Shows "406 MB" of usage yet when you tap on it, it suddenly shows 544 MB for "Top Conversation"

What the heck? It happens on iPhone and iPad!

ALSO there is an issue where some photo attachments simple refuse to delete. You select them, tap "delete" but the photos are still there (in the messaging details of the conversation)

It's soooo annoying. Everything about this is the same for me and I'm constantly struggling to delete messages and free up space because they keep coming back, don't delete from the other devices when they're supposed to if they're in iCloud, etc. All of it is a complete chaotic mess.

glad I am not the only one! there is also this note, where it claims there are additional photos in the cloud but it does not load anything else and the message goes temporarily away

Yup, I’ve tried everything. Signing out of iCloud and logging in again, turning off Messages in iCloud on all devices and re-enabling it, etc. Nothing works. Pretty much you can either just ignore it or delete the whole conversations which I don’t want to do.
