Shouldn’t my messages and photos on my iPhone 12 all have transferred to my iPhone 13?
I only see that the messages not the photos have downloaded from iCloud. Do I have to have both phones on Wi-Fi to continue this download syncing?

Yes, depending upon which transfer method
Idk what you mean by that. I just logged into iCloud onto my new phone and have messages toggle on both phones. So it should just carry over.

I didn’t do a back up from icloud, but just like my photos, contacts and calendar are saved. Messages should carry over across devices too.

when I click the messages tab on iCloud it says messages have not been fully downloaded to this iPhone and asks if I want to disable, which I dont. I Want it to continue downloading to the iPhone.
Idk how to trigger that.

Reading online it seems I need a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Cause my iCloud account shows the 16gb of messages. But my current phone only has the 2gb on the phone downloaded.

I’m pretty sure like half of my messages got deleted from icloud during my icloud backup restore to my 13 pro… not sure how that happened but i haven’t been able to get them back

That’s so weird. I didn’t do the backup but messages are backed up to iCloud just like photos so they should just go across all devices.

I tried finding support documents but nothing confirms if both devices need to be on Wi-Fi or same Wi-Fi.

Has to be plugged in and on wifi. Not the same wifi but each device will only sync messages when plugged in and connected to wifi. So charge them both and give it a bit the iCloud sync isn't instant. After that all your devices should stay in sync as they will all be logged into iMessage at the same time.

If doing the phone to phone you need WIFI for both phones

I’m not sure what you refer to as phone to phone. When I set up my new phone. I selected “don’t transfers data or apps”. I only logged into iCloud. This way my phone was set up as new but my pictures and messages would all sync.

problem is I wasn’t on Wi-Fi for long and then left for vacation.

it should continue after I’m back on Wi-Fi.

This is a known ios15 bug

I don’t have the messages tho. Idk where to see that. Mine is only messages. Photo and notes are fine.
