iCloud not forwarding messages to my gmail account

I have checked the box, put in the correct email but when I send the email it either doesn't work, or takes several minutes (sometimes hours) to finally come through.

Anything I can do to help solve this problem?

Left it, I just wanted to know so I could use the gmail app, but not worth the hassle! lol
