Right now, I'm using MEGA (at mega.co.nz) for my main cloud service. I sync Documents to MEGAsync, Music to Music and Pictures to Pictures. I also have irreplaceable software that is only in the cloud, unsynced locally. I was thinking that iCloud would be as easy to use on my 2009 17" MBP as it is on my iPhone. It isn't.
First, the fact that iCloud lives in ~Library/Mobile Documents/CloudDocs is mind bending. It's difficult enough to get at that it doesn't seem like one could copy their Documents, Downloads and Music folders to and really get away with it. Where would the entries in Finder's Sidebar be to get at those folders? I had thought of symlinks, and even hard links, but it didn't feel right.
Trying to search on the internet to find an El Capitan analog to Sierra's Desktop and Documents feature ended with so many "upgrade to Sierra" comments that I stopped looking.
