Wondering if anyone else has seen this issue? Over the past few months my photo count across all my devices did not agree, with the error as much as several hundred pictures. No matter how many times I tried to get iCloud/iPhone/iPad/MacBook to agree with my master library on my iMac they never would.
Then I started to notice that pictures and videos on my master library were vanishing. Thankfully I had backup drives. I deleted the entire library and reimported all my my media, yet once again the counts varied and pictures started to vanish.
I am running Catalina by the way and all this started to happen after I upgraded from Mojave.
I got curious and opened the Picture Library package to poke around inside and see what I could find. Inside I found a folder called Masters.Legacy and in that folder was one solitary picture I had deleted well over a year ago. This picture was not visible in any Photo app, album or even on iCloud. Remember this is a brand new library created from scratch with only pictures imported from my backup files. Where did it come from?
I deleted that picture and that folder and instantly I saw hundreds of pictures to start to upload and sync with iCloud. When it finished all of my devices had the same exact picture count and no pictures were missing. I have no idea how this one old file was messing up the entire library but getting rid of it fixed it all.
