iPhone 11 iCloud photo sync issue

Upgraded from XS to 11. I use iCloud photo sync with optimize storage turned on. Backed up my XS to iTunes before trading in my phone to Apple. On old phone my photos took up about 4-5 GB. When I synced the new 11 with the backup it synced all the full size photos so like 80GB worth. I’m having issues trying to get the phone to sync the optimized size ones now. Taking forever and my phone telling me low storage. Why did this happen? Anyway I can restore again and have this not happen?

Give it time. I’m sure you’re not the only one running into issues. Lots of people are trying to accomplish the same thing, so the servers must be getting hammered.
