I currently have an iPhone with 256GB and thinking of getting a new iPad Pro. i'm confused how storage works as Apple says all photos are shared between devices and that if you take a photo either a high res or optimised version is stored on devices.

My question is: say i get a 1TB iPad and take 300GB worth of photos/videos. does that mean my iPhone will be filled up? OR are those photos/videos only stored locally on the device they were taken and therefore if i view them on my iPhone they are only online versions and i'd have to manually download them to store them on my iPhone?

sorry i know it sounds like a stupid question but i tried finding an answer on Apple website.

When using iCloud the dominant storage is the cloud. You can chose to also have a local copy of your photos, if you don’t then the originals will get uploaded and then replaced with a smaller local preview for quick viewing.
