iCloud Photos Download and Keep Originals

What happens if you've had your photos optimized this whole time (my 20GB library is currently optimized at 350MB) and then change your mind and decide to download and keep the originals. Will it start downloading the originals immediately after I choose the option or does it spread it out over time?

It should start as soon as you're on wifi.
