iCloud photos

I know this topic has been discussed here many times but.. I turned on iCloud photos and all my photos now in the cloud. However the photos from my MacBook are still on my MacBook. Now I know everyone says it will keep the photos locally until space is needed. Well I only have about 22gb free on my hard drive. I'd say it's time to remove the photos to free the 30gb they are taking up. Any way to make this happen? I'd like to gain the space back.
