My daughter keeps getting notification that iCloud Private Relay is inactive, and then a few minutes later she will get a message saying it is active again. I had never really heard of Private Relay but sounds like it just something to help ensure extra privacy? I checked my settings and it is off, which makes sense as I've never seen the messages.
Is it typical to get these messages? Is it based on different sites she using, or cell coverage in certain places? Do people use Private Relay in general? I was going to just have her turn it off, but then I wondered if I should have it on. I'm not really too concerned about my general browsing info getting leaked somehow.
Thanks!

I leave mine on all the time and have never gotten this message, but not all ISPs or cell carriers support it. (I'm on Verizon.)

It should be saying why it was turned off though, assuming she's on iOS 15.3 or later.

I'll have to get the exact wording next time. She said it says inactive, whereas that link discusses it being turned off by your cellular plan. I'm thinking maybe as we are driving and she switches to different towers it could affect it? We are on Verizon. Or maybe wifi spots around town/school are setting it off? Thanks

Some networks do block private relay ( intentionally or not), so you can sometimes see the message pop up if you are roaming between different networks. Even with a single cellular provider you may sometimes find it works and sometimes doesn't.

Any chance she uses a third-party VPN client? Certainly I've seem Private Relay disable/enable messages when using one.

She doesn't use a VPN, probably doesn't even know what that is. Unless she's up to something...🤔

The coverage around us does get spotty/slower in places, so I'm thinking it's just as she's roaming. I'll tell her to either ignore of switch it off all together. Thanks!

i have sky broadband and i'm pretty sure it doesn't work if you have sky shield turned on, because sky needs to know what websites you're visiting in order to block them. other ISPs probably have similar things

This disable/enable thing started happening me today. I'm just sitting on my couch, using the ISP I always use, xfinity. I would say it changes state every 30 minutes or so.
