iCloud pushes notifications for new email but does not clear when read

I set up my iPhone to send push notifications when I receive a new email. However, if I receive a new email and read it on my computer, I still receive the notification on my phone—even after I have archived the message. It seems that read status is not pushed to the phone as well. Is there a way to fix this?
