Hello dear people,

Struggling with a few details of data encryption and apps. So hear me out:

I’m using iCloud+ and I back up EVERYTHING to iCloud, everything is switched on.
I’m also using WhatsApp which is backed up daily AS WELL. However, there is a Switch “End-to-end encrypted backup”.

1) Can someone please tell me how this works, because I remember reading a thread online saying that there are two backups of WhatsApp and it’s not encrypted one way?

2) Re: iCloud+ Advanced data protection: if I haven’t activated the Advanced protocol, my backups are not encrypted? So who can access those? And are there any downsides, like, can I make sure that I always have access and will not lose anything in the future? What do I have to keep in mind?

They make it sound so serious if they “warn” like “only YOU or YOUR TRUSTED DEVICES” have access, not Apple, not WhatsApp, etc.
It feels like I’m not supposed to turn it on… if that makes sense.

Many thanks for clarification!
