I think I may just have hit a roadblock. I thought iCloud drive was exactly that, a remote drive as if it were a network drive in the Cloud. However, I have discovered when I copy files into it on my Mac they then take up additional space on my hard drive. Now it seems I have no way to delete the local copies without iCloud deleting the remote copies. I could hit optimise storage but that would then randomly start deleting local files from my documents and desktop which is not what I want either.

Is there anyway to delete local copies and retain the cloud versions or is iCloud really not there yet as a Cloud storage solution?
