quick question about upgrading iCloud storage, do you have the option to make one payment for the year or is the only option for Apple to bill your card monthly?

I'm pretty sure it's just monthly, giving you the option to opt out or change plan at any time, and not be locked in for a year.

Monthly unless you were iCloud storage user e.g 10/15 GB paid sub etc before you upgraded the storage, then it would be yearly ..
