The last few days on my Mac mini OS X 10.3.9 system, I've noticed all of my .dmg and .toast files keep getting icon changes. Every day, it's a new icon.

The first thing that popped in my head was rebuild desktop, but that's an OS 9 thing.

Any suggestions on how to get my icon association back to the default icon for my .dmg and .toast files? Is there some sort of hard drive utility that I can run to fix this?

try repairing permissions via Disk Utility which can be found in Applications>Utilities

Repairing permissions didn't help.

This is a screen shot of what it looks like:

That and the prompt when I go to empty the trash look like that icon.

This used to happen to me on Panther (it hasn't happened on Tiger at all) and all I could do to fix it was reboot, has this machine been rebooted in a while?

Crazy.... the reboot worked. Icons back to normal. And I got about 700mb more free space, too.

Thanks to all for the help with this.

Just need to upgrade to Tiger soon.
