I'm trying to change the windows partition icon in Mac OSX Leopard and it won't let me just drag the new icon. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Is there any other way for me to change the icon?

You can change the font through Boot Camp or VMWare as for icons... I'm not sure but you can try changing it through VMware or booting into Boot Camp.

However, I haven't tried this but my hypothesis is that Mac OS X looks at drives as drives and maybe if you change the Boot Camp's icon then it might change the Mac's hdd icon as well. Or icons are stored in the BC partition for that drive so Mac OS X won't be able to find the icon to load in the BC partition. That's my 2cents, correct me if I'm wonder here.

If you want to rename it I posted a solution

Now mine looks like this:

And to change the icon, you right click, get info. At the top left, there's a little icon. Click it onces and it will outline in blue. Go to your picture select it and copy it. Go back to get info and paste it (command v) and it will change.

Nice, I like that. Gonna make one for iMac (unless you already have one) when I get home.

I had a custom one that looked like the Time Machine drive with the windows logo but I like yours better.

That doesn't work for NTFS partitions. I want to know how to change the icon for a windows NTFS partition.

What format is that? Mine says NTFS and I have READ ONLY access.

you need to install macFUSE, which can read addition file systems that OS X can't normally. CandyBar from Panic can also change the Icon.

There is a way to do it if you have an external drive (or usb thumb drive) too. You need to apply the icon to the drive, and then copy the hidden files to the root of your NTFS drive. Google it, it was easy to find last time I looked.

That page is for leopard, and a link for tiger there too.
