Why does :apple: not allow us to place the icons on the home screen where we want? Like, it's always in a row from left to right, top to bottom.

But if we have nice wallpaper and we want to place the icons lower so that it looks spiffy, then we can't :(

I know...its annoying. There is a little bit of a trick you can do by saving "transparent URL icons" to your homescreen. This site helps you do it

I place all my icons to the right onto another screen leaving the first screen mostly blank except the two you see on the bottom

Well the point is, why won't apple let us do it without some wacky workaround?

I don't understand why Apple doesn't allow it as long as the icons are still on the grid.

They like to keep things simple so that everyone can easily use their phones.

I hate this as well. That is why gridlock was such a popular jailbreak tweak.

It may be a limitation in the way the iOS framework is laid out that limits the icon placement and not necessarily a conscious decision by Apple not to allow it.

The ios has worked the same for years now. They've had plenty of time to change the ios to adapt to something like this. Simpy create a grid for icons to be placed in and allow the user to position them.
