Icon preview slider buggy

In Finder, when I switch to a folder and then change the view to icon view, the slider in the status bar at the bottom right of the window doesn't always work right away. I can slide the button in the tool, but it does nothing. This happens even for a window with just a few files in it. When this happens, if I switch to another view and then back to icon view, then the slider function works fine to zoom the icons. I upgraded to Lion only about a week ago.
