I found out that my macOS settings icons are missing. A restart doesn't help, here's a screenshot:
macOS Settings Icons Missing.jpg

(The white rectangle is OK, it's where my personal iCloud info was and I erased it)

Anyone encountered this? Any ideas how I can restore them?

Try to run First Aid on the disk, preferably from macOS Recovery.

Thanks, that actually fixed it! I wasn't really optimistic about it but well, it helped :) Does that mean I had filesystem/disk errors and what could be the reason for them. It's a new MacBook Air M2 with 512 GB SSD and I hope that doesn't mean its SSD is starting to fail. Unfortunately I didn't check the disk repair logs to see whether there was any (and what) errors were repaired. Can I check that now, is there a log preserved?

I would’t worry about the health of the SSD.
Apple’s file system (APFS) and update methods are just prone to errors. :)
If you notice reduced speeds in launching apps or on read/writing files, especially after a macOS update, run First Aid again.

OK, the problem reappeared 😢 I think it's a macOS bug, probably an icon cache or something is broken.

intel or silicon mac? anyway, create a test admin account, see if it happens there (this will tell you if it's a problem in your account, or a global issue). or call apple if you can....

It's a MacBook Air M2, probably less than 3 months old. I'll call the support, thanks.

I was with the support for quite some time, they suspect it's some of the software I installed. I use this laptop for music creation and I had Arturia Software Center, Steinberg stuff, e-licensers and whatnot, all these running in the background. I uninstalled all of them for now and the issue is solved. I will wait for a few days to see whether the issue will reappear. If not, then I will start gradually installing them and see which one is causing it and contact the devs.

As a side note, I'm really annoyed by how the big names in the music creation world are bloating my computer with background processes, e-licensers, software managers and stuff that is bordering on bloatware.

agreed (i make music for a living). it is endless (the 'software centers', background processes, etc). good luck finding the culprit (and let us know!)

I’m 2 years late , but did you ever determine what was causing the issue?

Just got an m4 mbp and am having the same issue. I’m a music creator as well and also have a large number of borderline-bloatware plugins. I’m convinced it’s one of those but I haven’t been able to narrow it down.

Thank you
