Icons not showing up in Dock

I have changed some of the icons for folders on my computer. When I drag those folders to my dock (the right side of the dock, past the divider; i forget what this section is called) all that displays is the regular blue folder icon and not the new icons. This used to work for me, but for the life of me I can't deduce why all of a sudden it stopped working.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I think you should probably repair permissions...

I have already used Disk Utility to do that, but to no avail. Thanks for the advice though
