Icons revert?

Does anyone know why this would keep happening?

I have an excel file for which I would like to assign a particular icon, as I do not care for the default Microsoft icon. I change it, no problem. I put a shortcut to the file in my dock, and everything is peachy keen.

For about a week.

Inevitably, the default Microsoft icon turns up, and I have to start the process again. Is there a way to ensure the icon *I* choose stays chosen?

Thanks for any help.
