I remember that when I updated to iOS 7 beta 1, I found some new icons horrible.
Now that I have spent so long with those, I tend to like them.
I even think that the Safari icon is not that bad in the end.
Seems like Stockholm syndrome :)

Anyone else?

Not for me. I've been using iOS 7 since beta 1 (June) and I still hate the icons I hated back then. Mainly Safari, Camera, Calculator, Contacts and Reminders.

They need to get a team that only makes icons and not this other dude, Ivey. I'm not sure if I spelled has last name correctly, but you can't let one guy decide what's best for us. They should read our forums.
As Far as the new icons, you can't change them and I've learned to like a few.

Icons get tweaked between different versions of iOS, hopefully they make them nicer.

I didn't like them at beta 1 either.

After 7.0 I went back to ios6 on my 4s which just looks dull and frumpy. It was then I realised the look of ios7 really is more pleasing to me on my 5 and 5s.

All fashion is stockholm syndrome :)

When did we decide that men had get buzz cuts and when did we think bell bottoms were awesome?

Ahaha, nicely said :)
I will write down this quote, "all fashion is stockholm syndrome", very nice ;)

I love iOS 7 and I make more as a interface designer than anyone in this thread.

It would have been so simple for them to either have custom icons, or even an "old IOS" icon option.

The icons wouldn't match the flat theme of the operating system though. And how could they possibly implement custom icons in a simple way?

Well who says it has to match the 'flat' theme?

Possibilities are endless for software. One option would be same way as songs are done in itunes, "get info" on the icon, then select image. I'm sure apple engineers could fill in the rest ;)

I guess doing it through iTunes on a computer would work. It's more of a taste thing, but design should be consistent through an operating system. If you had gloss on the icons, it would look out of place.

The colours in the leftmost iPhone aren't accurate. That image looks like it's from the retail packaging, which has slightly different colours. Mail, Safari and Weather icons never changed before iOS 7. SMS and Phone were also brighter, though they (and iPod) were given pinstripes in either iPhone OS 2 or 3.

And yes, I've been using the iPhone since iPhone OS 1.1.1.

Uhhh Jonny Ivy didn't design the icons, the marketing team did - Macrumours posted about it awhile ago.

As long as they're easily distinguishable, I don't really care what icons look like.

You make more app icons than anyone else...? Prove it.

That is too funny, well played.

The calculator in particular has gone through many modifications, even before iOS7:

Other than iPod(music and video), Calculator, and SMS, what other apps really changed?

I've had an iOS device the iPod touch 1st gen running 'iPhone OS', yet can't remember what other icons changed between then and iOS 6.
