I'm wondering if anyone has any experience / could possibly give an account of the iControl app in Cydia?

In theory it saves battery by managing your radio towers and allowing you when to control 2G vs 3G. For instance, you can set it to switch to 2G towers whenever the phone is locked. In theory this would dramatically increase your standby time because it wouldn't be connected to 3G whenever the phone is not in US during the day or sleeping.

But what I am wondering is if this is not the case because of all the extra power consumed by constantly switching to 2G/3G everytime I lock or unlock my phone. Which isn't much, but during a workday where a lot of texting might take place and inserting/pulling the phone from my pocket to constantly lock and unlock...it could?

It's a paid app so I didn't want to waste my money for something that seems too good to be true.
