Short-listing these 3 external drives/enclosures for my Mac Mini HTPC storage
Fantom G-drive Green 1tb
OWC's Mercury Al-Elite 1tb drive
Icy Dock 1394 enclosure + a WD 1tb Caviar Green (drive not linked - we all know what it is...)

My desired criteria:

must run relatively cool - it will be in a badly ventilated cupboard that can reach 100ºf at times.
Not too noisy is a plus, as is low energy consumption.

If one of these drives is capable of idling down when not in use then that would be a huge bonus.

What does the MR crew think of these 3 choices? Your comments welcome.

I would go with the OWC. Def. not the IcyDock.

That's what I've been leaning towards - I have an Elite Pro dual enclosure that apart from 2 burned out PS's I'm pretty happy with. The Al-Elite seems pretty straightforward.

I may just buy the enclosure and sub in the WD Caviar Green...
